Federal Bureau of Prisons Release Records

To find someone released from a Federal Bureau of Prisons institution after a Lawrence County connection, search the federal custody system rather than the county jail roster. No federal prison sits in Lawrence County, and federal defendants may move through several agencies before or after sentencing. A BOP release result concerns federal prison custody only. Pretrial detention can remain with the U.S. Marshals Service, while an immigration hold can lead to ICE custody. The correct record depends on which agency had legal control at the time of departure, and one locator’s missing result never proves that the person entered the community.

Lawrence Federal Release Routes

The federal facility entry in the Lawrence County map represents a nationwide receiving system, not a building in the county. A person convicted in federal court can be sent to any institution selected by the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Before sentencing, the U.S. Marshals Service may retain legal custody while placing the person in a contracted local or regional jail. After a BOP term, the person may enter community corrections, supervised release, state custody, or immigration custody.

Each movement has a separate record. BOP documents sentenced federal imprisonment and many release dates. USMS handles federal pretrial detention and court movements but offers no broad public historical release locator. ICE maintains its own detainee locator. If Lawrence County Jail reports that a person departed “to USMS,” that entry is a transfer, not a community release. The federal receiving agency must supply the next status.

Search Lawrence Federal Release Records

The official BOP Inmate Locator covers many federally incarcerated people from 1982 to the present. Search by register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number when one is known. A number is more reliable than a common name. The biographical route accepts a name and descriptors such as race, age, and sex. Open only a result whose identifiers fit the person.

A result may show a register number, current location or status, and a release date. “Released” means the BOP custody event shown in that record ended. “Not in BOP custody” can also appear. Neither phrase proves that the person returned to Lawrence County or has no other legal supervision. A person can be transferred, placed in prerelease custody, held on a writ, or delivered to another sovereign after the federal event.

  1. Use the federal identification number if one is available.
  2. Otherwise enter the exact name and compare the listed descriptors.
  3. Record the register number, status wording, and displayed date.
  4. Check the federal court record for the sentence and supervised-release terms.
  5. Search another custodian when a hold or transfer may have followed.

Note: BOP status is authoritative for the federal record it displays, but it cannot confirm a separate Lawrence County or Mississippi hold.

Read Federal Release Status

Federal status terms should be repeated exactly, then interpreted within their limits. A dated “Released” result is stronger than a general name miss because it links an identity and register number to a federal custody event. Even so, sentence information can change through court action or recalculation. A future date is scheduled information, not proof that the person has crossed out of custody.

A federal release date closes only the BOP event shown. Check state, county, USMS, or ICE records when another hold may exist.

“Not in BOP custody” is narrower than “free.” The person might never have entered BOP, might still be awaiting federal sentencing under USMS authority, or might have moved to another agency. A community corrections placement can also be managed outside a prison institution. Pair the displayed status with the federal docket, known holding facility, and any transfer entry. Avoid turning silence in one database into a claim about all custody.

Register number
The durable BOP identifier used to distinguish federal records.
Released
The end of the BOP custody event shown in the locator.
Supervised release
A federal court term served in the community after imprisonment.
Detainer
A request or notice that another authority may take custody.

USMS Lawrence Custody Transfers

The U.S. Marshals Service prisoner information explains its federal detention role. USMS prisoners are often housed in state, local, or private facilities under contract. Physical location and legal custody can therefore be different. A Lawrence County jail movement record might name USMS as the destination even though the next federal placement does not appear at once in BOP.

For a known federal pretrial case, identify the federal district and case number. The court docket can show detention, bond, sentencing, and commitment orders. Ask the last physical facility whether the departure was to USMS, BOP, another jail, or the community. Then contact the correct federal district or holding facility for the public status channel. BOP’s sentenced-prisoner locator should not be expected to document every pretrial transfer, writ, or court trip.

The Lawrence County release records search explains how to obtain the local movement entry when the federal chain began at the county jail. The official Lawrence County Sheriff channel supplies the local jail number, while the Lawrence County Circuit Court page identifies the state-court route and the Monticello Police Department page can establish whether city officers began the episode. Request the departure date, time, authority, and destination agency. Those fields prevent a transfer from being mislabeled as release.

ICE Lawrence Release Checks

The ICE Online Detainee Locator System has two search modes. Use an A-number with country of birth when that number is known, or use biographical details. Exact spelling and identity data matter. Some people do not appear because of age rules, a recent change, data lag, transfer, or because another agency holds the record.

A no-result response does not prove release. Use the ICE detention information channel when the locator remains inconclusive. No evidence in the Lawrence County research establishes a current ICE detention contract at the county jail, so immigration transfer must not be described as routine. It is one possible destination only when a particular jail log, detainer, or federal record supports it.

  1. Try the A-number route first when the identifier is available.
  2. Repeat the search with accurate biographical data if needed.
  3. Check the spelling, country of birth, and recent change date.
  4. Use the detention information line when no conclusive result appears.
  5. Confirm the last custodian’s destination entry before calling the event a release.

Request Lawrence Federal Release Proof

No single Lawrence County office can issue every federal record. Ask BOP for its release or custody record when the person served a federal prison term. Seek the federal court order for sentence and supervised release. For a USMS-held person, identify the district and last contract facility. If the Lawrence County Jail was involved, request its local booking and movement record only for the portion it controlled.

A focused request names the person, identifier, approximate date, and the exact existing record sought. Ask for a release date and type, transfer destination, or public movement entry. Do not ask an agency to create a new analysis. If part of a record is withheld, ask for the legal basis and whether nonexempt fields can be separated. Save the official response with the locator result so the source and date remain clear.

Separate Lawrence Custody Systems

A Lawrence County charge does not make every later record a county record. The sheriff controls a local booking and release entry. MDOC controls a Mississippi prison sentence and its supervision records. BOP controls federal prison data. ICE controls its detention information, and USMS controls many federal pretrial movements. Search each system only for the custody it can prove.

The most reliable chain follows the person from one named custodian to the next. Start with the last confirmed agency, request the destination field, and then open the receiving system. Match identifying numbers and dates at every handoff. A disappearance from one roster, a BOP “Released” label, or an ICE no-result each has limits. Together with court orders and movement records, those facts can establish what happened without overstating what any one page shows.

Federal supervised release adds another distinction. It is a court-ordered period in the community after imprisonment and is not the same as Mississippi parole or MDOC ERS. The federal sentencing judgment states its length and conditions. A BOP locator may show that imprisonment ended, while the federal docket and probation system show that legal obligations continue. If a violation leads to a new warrant or revocation, the current custodian may again be USMS or BOP. The old release date remains a past event and does not establish present freedom.

Records should also be matched to the correct case. A person can have a federal matter and a separate Lawrence County or Mississippi cause. One order may permit release while another authorizes continued detention. Use the federal case number, BOP register number, county booking number, and MDOC number as distinct keys. When dates conflict, ask each custodian what its entry represents rather than selecting the most favorable result.

Note: Federal, Mississippi, and Lawrence County records may update on different schedules, so preserve the wording and access date for each result.
